Attendance
Every School Day Matters
At Temple Guiting Church of England Primary School, we believe that regular school attendance is essential in helping every child to thrive.
Our school vision, "Everyone to Thrive", reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child feels happy, safe, included and supported to achieve their full potential.
Attending school regularly helps children develop confidence, build friendships, establish positive routines and make the most of the exciting learning opportunities available to them.
We understand that children may sometimes be too unwell to attend school or that families may face challenges which affect attendance. We are always happy to work with parents and carers to offer support where needed.
Reporting Your Child's Absence
If your child is unable to attend school, please contact the school office before 9:00am on the first day of absence, giving your child's name and the reason for their absence.
You can contact us by:
Telephone: 01451 850304
Email: admin@templeguiting.gloucs.sch.uk
Please continue to update the school if your child remains absent.
If we have not received notification of an absence, we will contact parents or carers to establish the reason and ensure the child is safe.
Illness and Medical Appointments
We understand that children will sometimes be too unwell to attend school. However, if your child has a minor illness and is well enough to participate in the school day, we encourage them to attend.
Children who have experienced vomiting or diarrhoea should remain at home until 48 hours after the last episode.
Where possible, please arrange routine medical and dental appointments outside school hours. If this is unavoidable, please inform the school in advance and provide appointment details if requested. Children should attend school before and after appointments wherever possible.
Arriving at School on Time
Being punctual is an important part of good attendance. Arriving late can be unsettling for children and means they miss valuable learning time.
Holidays and Leave of Absence During Term Time
In accordance with Department for Education guidance and Gloucestershire County Council procedures, holidays during term time will not normally be authorised.
Headteachers may only grant leave of absence in the specific circumstances permitted by law, including certain exceptional circumstances. Each request will be considered individually.
Parents wishing to request leave of absence must complete a Leave of Absence Request Form and submit it to the school office in advance of the proposed absence.
Please be aware that taking your child out of school without authorisation may result in a penalty notice being issued by Gloucestershire County Council
Penalty Notices for Unauthorised Absence
Under the national attendance framework and Gloucestershire County Council's procedures, schools must consider whether a penalty notice is appropriate when a child has accumulated 10 sessions (equivalent to 5 school days) of unauthorised absence within a rolling period of 10 school weeks.
These absences do not need to be consecutive.
